Check out these great stories from some of the happy people with happy dogs from Tails of Success!
Latte seemed to have a lovely time boarding with Sherri. I saw pictures of her visit—she appeared to enjoy herself on the climbing logs and in the digging pit! When I went to pick Latte up, I did not receive her usual “Oh, thank God you’re here” response. While she was happy to see me, I don’t think she minded having her own little vacation at all! I would recommend without reservation leaving your dog(s) in Sherri’s care. - Carrie and Latte
I have boarded my dog Kira, an 11 year old Alaskan Husky, with Tails of Success several times in the year or so I have had her. Any dog is special of course, but Kira is a bit spooky, shy and wary, as she is a rescue dog who lived for most of her life in a pen, rather neglected and with minimal contact with people. I feel quite comfortable leaving her with Sherri. As an expert dog trainer and owner of a dog day care she has the experience and ability to care for a dog in a way many providers just don’t have. I appreciate too that Kira is in a home environment with Sherri.
In addition to having boarded my dog with Sherri, I have had the benefit of a private training session with Sherri and my dog, and have seen her dog day care and training facility. I would recommend her to anyone looking for boarding or a trainer. - Charlie and Kira
I love that the class size is small and that the trainers are able to spend one-on-one time with each dog working on whatever that specific dog needs. They also give great suggestions and advice even if it's not directly related to what we're working on in class. I also like that the classes go at your dog's pace and activities can be modified as needed. I think Bailey has become much better at sits, stays, lays, etc. and is becoming much more consistent than he was prior to starting classes. - Michelle and Bailey
Tails of Success has been great with the classes!! This is the only class that offered a more flexible schedule. Every other class I looked into anywhere else was only ONE day a week while going over the SAME thing for those 8 weeks!! It was a no brainer when I found Tails of Success!! You can choose to go on the multiple days they offered that works with your schedule. And you can keep learning new things and moving on to the next level when you are happy with your dogs level of training! It had been very helpful for me- someone without regular hours and shifts. Thanks guys!! - Amanda and Amaya
In just two classes, my puppy and I have already learned the basics of dog obedience. The trainers are wonderful, patient and informative instructors, often explaining not just the "how" but the "why's" of getting your dog to learn. Thanks for being so awesome! Nadia really seems to enjoy going to class, and doing her 'homework' training. - Joanna and Nadia
The classes that are offered at Tails of Success are great. The flexible schedule makes it easy for me, especially as a first time owner of a puppy, to not only learn how to train my dog at her pace, but at mine as well. These classes offer an opportunity to master skills before moving onto the next level. For that reason, I don't feel rushed or stressed that I have to get everything right the first time. It's my feeling that the training classes are more for me than for my puppy. These classes give me an opportunity to build my confidence in knowing that I am properly training my puppy when I'm at home. And, the classes are great for my puppy because it gives her the opportunity to be around different people and dogs each class. Sherri and her assistants are very patient and kind, and I trust that I am learning from experts. - Lydia and Edelweiss
The flexible format has been great for Finn's socialization skills. He has the opportunity to meet different dogs each time we attend class. It has also been good for improving how Finn is able to maintain his attention and allows for a lot of one on one attention with the instructors. - Heather and Finn
I really enjoy going to classes at Tails of Success. Sherri and her staff have helped me to bridge the communication gap between Jordan and I in a positive manner. Jordan and I are learning to work WITH each other. I like being able to attend two nights a week as it helps to reinforce the skills being taught in class for the both of us. There are so many invaluable benefits about the way the program is set up. You will just have to come in and experience it for yourself. - Laura and Jordan
I can't say enough about the work Sherri does with dogs and what a positive effect she had on our household. We adopted a new dog, Sadie, to add to our family in addition to our two dogs, Buddy and Sherman. The first couple of days were terrifying for me- Buddy and Sherman were NOT accepting of Sadie and acted terribly aggressive toward her. I was panicked! I contacted Sherri right away and she came out to our house within hours of the call. She worked with all three dogs, individually, in pairs, and eventually with the three of them together and she was AMAZING! Her calm, gentle approach made all the difference- within days, all three dogs were playing together and the aggression had subsided. Sherri is extremely knowledgeable and left me with exercises, games and training techniques that I've been able to use with my dogs every day and I've seen behavioral improvements even in my 12-year old Buddy within the first week! I will recommend Sherri to anyone and everyone in need of some "guidance" for their dog friends- I don't know what we would have done without her. Thanks, Sherri! - Karin and Buddy, Sherman, and Sadie
Thanks again for a wonderful class! It was my first experience with a ‘positive rewards’ dog trainer, and it really reaffirmed everything I was thinking about dog training versus marine mammal training, and why they shouldn’t be different. Luna responded immediately to the training, and it was great to see my daughter learn a better way to interact with dogs. You also put me in touch with a bunch of new reading material about positive reinforcement, which I really appreciated! Thanks again for all your help and encouragement, and for all the great animal behavior discussions we had after classes. I learned a lot from you, and I’m looking forward to the next class! - Debbie and Luna
Tails of Success and Sherri helped save my dog. After a home visit because of a fight between our two dogs, Sherri reassured me that my dog did not have dog aggression issues, and through a series of "games" we were able to successfully reintroduce our dogs, who have been best friends again, ever since! We also attended the "calm and control" class and learned even more techniques to help calm Blossom so that we were able to work with her, and to help her feel better in stressful situations. Blossom is so much easier to work with bc I am able to calm her down so quickly by using the class techniques, its like a different dog moved into our house. Everyday I am grateful for Tails of Success and Sherri because my whole way of thinking as far as dogs and dog behavior goes has changed due to the things I have learned from them! - Liz and Blossom
I was having some aggression issues with my 4 year old male Pitbull mix. I had recently begun fostering puppies for a local rescue group, and he was not adjusting to the new living arrangements very well, which resulted in one of the foster puppies being bitten. It wasn't a severe bite, but it was enough to get me concerned. I contacted Sherri and she came to my house to work with Doyle on a couple of occasions. She had me keep a journal of the incidents to better pinpoint what the triggers may be, as I couldn't see any reasons for his issues in the past. He would be fine one minute, and then nasty the next. By using the journal, I realized that he only went after the puppies when he was overly excited or anxious about something. Sherri recommended that Doyle attend the Calm and Control Class to try and work on teaching him ways to relax himself in intense situations. I was nervous about him being in a class with other dogs, but LOVED that for the first few classes, there were barriers up so that he couldn't see any of the other dogs. He has really learned that being relaxed is something that he is capable of, and while he still needs consistent work, Sherri has provided me with the tools to get him on the way to being a nice and calm dog! Thank you so much!! - Kim and Doyle
My husband and I were first-time dog owners with a brand new puppy and we had no idea where to start when it came to training. All we knew is that we loved him…despite the fact hat he chewed everything in sight (including us), jumped up on everything and everyone, and managed to find a way to eat and/or destroy anything no matter how hard we tried to keep it hidden. I began researching positive dog training and found Tails of Success. Let me tell you, meeting Sherri and signing up for classes was the best decision we ever made! Of course we could tell you about how our pup is learning tons of important new skills (and he is!) or how Sherri really gets to know each dog and takes the time to work one-on-one in class as needed. But the truth is, the best thing about Sherri’s classes and seminars is that we’re learning tons! She’s just as patient, understanding, and empowering with people as she is with the dogs and her instruction is focused on helping owners and their best friends become a working, loving partnership. When you sign up for class, you’re really signing up for access to Sherri’s wealth of knowledge and experience, which she doles out in huge portions every class - and at a great price too. Here’s one example: We thought we were doing great because we had succeeded in teaching our pup to “sit”. But when we tried to teach him to “lie down”, we did everything we could think of. He just didn’t want to get in that position. We went to class one night and asked Sherri for help. She had him laying down in short order – but more importantly, she walked us through how to shape his behavior step by step. Well, my husband must have been listening, because later that week our pup could shake, speak, and roll over too! Sherri has helped make training fun and creative for both us and our pup. We’ve really loved being a part of Tails of Success! -Meredith, Travis, and d’Artagnan
I found Lucy after a foster agency rescued her from being euthanized at the pound because of her aggression. Lucy had difficultly getting used to her new environment and was diagnosed as having separation anxiety. She chewed our coffee table, the couch, my shoes, my cell phone, had accidents all over the house, you name it. We took her to the vet and his solution was Prozac. So, we got a different vet and enrolled Lucy in Obedience Class at Tails. Almost IMMEDIATLY I saw a change in Lucy. She was so successful in her classes that it led to her being a more confident dog. Everyone comments on how she is a "different dog" and cannot believe how much she has calmed down. Sherri, Darcy, and Amanda have saved me from pulling all of my hair out and given me positive solutions to every single behavior Lucy has displayed. I chose Tails because they teach dogs a positive replacement behavior rather than ever even thinking about punishing the dog for it's problem behavior. I've recently moved and I notice Lucy is anxious because of that, but she is currently enrolled in the Calm and Control class at Tails. I'm again, already noticing a difference! We are also huge fans of the Thundershirt. It is funny to put it on Lucy because you can see her anxiety decrease almost instantly. Thank you for always being there for this puggle! She deserves a happy, anxiety-free life with her new family and we are getting there because of you. - Laura, Rob, and Lucy
We've been training with our dog Georgia for about 7 months now with Tails of Success. Originally, we were just going to enroll her in Puppy Preschool for some basic obedience and some doggie/owner bonding...Enter Sherri: Trainer Extraordinaire. After five classes (over a much longer time period b/c Georgia got sick part way through...another great perk...Sherri simply enrolled us in the next class and let us pick up where we left off) Georgia was a different dog! Her confidence was improving and she was completely bonded to us. Of course, she was also willing and able to obey all the basic commands involved in the puppy class. But most importantly, training was fun!!! Sherri is one of the most patient people I have ever met, and by far one of Georgia's favorite! She uses a gentle, calm, and patient approach - even with the toughest of students (as always, the owners!) Since graduating Puppy Preschool, we enrolled in more classes with Georgia. We love teaching her tricks, and targeting has by far been the best "trick" she has learned. Through the flexible format classes we have been able to fit regular training into our busy lives. We look forward to class each week, and Georgia knows where we are as soon as we pull into the parking lot! - Melissa, Dan, and Georgia
We recently adopted a senior dog, an Alaskan Husky who is quite shy and skittish. She also is not at all comfortable with car rides. So we had Sherri come out for a private training session which proved to be a great lesson for both the dog and her owner! Sherri gave good general advice and suggestions on training, dealing with shyness, name recognition and recall. We also took a walk around the block which was worth the private session in itself, to learn how to better handle this dog who pulled hard and was also so skittish, in her current environment where she walks every day. The trick Sherri used of looping the lead over the dog's head and across her chest to help teach better walking was both clever and very productive! Things are going well and we are very happy with the results of our private session. - Charlie and Kira
I am so glad that I found Sherri and her great assistants to help me learn how to train my dog. I appreciate their method- gentle handling and positively reinforcing good behaviors. Sherri is very knowledgeable in her field and I trust that she gives me well-informed answers to any questions I might have. Sherri and her assistants are easy to approach and always willing to help and assist whenever possible. I can tell they sincerely care about my dog and her well-being and that they want to help me be the best owner I can be. - Lydia and Edelweiss
Tails of Success has been great for me and my Shiba Inu!! I was very nervous about training her because of how "stubborn" this breed can be. But we have come a looong way after working with Sherri and Darcy! They have so many good tips and advice and I never felt intimidated asking questions or for help! Thank you guys for all your help!! I have been recommending you guys to everyone I know! - Amanda and Amaya
Tonight my parents came over for dinner, and Milo has always been scared of my dad, who has a full beard and mustache, ever since we've had him. My dad has been here at least 6 times, probably more, and every time, Milo barks/howls at him- his trying to be brave bark- and skitters away, and it takes him about an hour with my dad ignoring him to finally venture over for a pat. Tonight, we didn't even say anything, and Milo walked right over to him as he came in the door, tail wagging, looking up at him, and let my dad pet him! No barking, no running away, no nervousness! I don't know if it's the change in diet, the work we've been doing with your classes, or a combination of those plus things we don't even know, but it was incredible. It gives us such hope for Milo's self-esteem in being able to handle new situations! This is the kind of thing that you work for as a dog owner. I love it. I thought you'd be the best person to appreciate these milestones when he hits them. We're thrilled with the way he handled himself, and we appreciate so much everything you've shown us because we know now how to assess Milo's state, what we should do depending on how he feels, and where we can go from there. He's finally getting to be a real dog and enjoy his doggie life with your help :) - Kate and Milo
Tails of Success has proven aptly named for us, as they turned our 9 month old rescue poodle-mix from a good find into a genuine treasure. They did this through their obedience training program on a flexible schedule that allowed us to move him along at his own pace to the point where we were satisfied with his proficiency level - a sensible and economical approach not found at other training programs. Pinot loves to go to his classes both for the fun of play and for the pride of success. He has learned a number of new skills (and polished some he'd learned earlier) which make him a more playful and pleasant companion. The clicker has become like a an increasingly more sophisticated remote control we can use to shape and influence his social skills. We recommend Tails of Success to friends with dogs every chance we get." -Bob, Joanne, and Pinot
Because of Sherri's consistent training techniques, I feel empowered to do more work on my own and I know that continuing the progress that has been made so far will allow Ella to be around other dogs for prolonged periods of time and not feel that she has to be in 'react and attack' mode. Through Sherri, I learned how to polite-walk Ella, the importance of proper training and reward, and also how to break my own bad habit of reacting negatively or anxiously when Ella encounters other dogs. I'm so proud that Ella is breaking an old association everyday and building a new one. Sherri was friendly, accessable, and completely approachable. Even when I had concerns or questions about our lessons, she explained (often, kindly re-explained) to me the reasons behind doing what we were doing so that I was able to see the purpose behind the action. I am definitely going to be working with Sherri in the future as Ella and I continue our training, and I have already recommended her to others who seek solutions for issues with their dogs. -Stefanie and Ella
Joey possessed very few obedience skills and some other bad habits that needed to be broken when we got him. Joey would nip on a somewhat aggressive fashion when playing, he was pulling on his leash, and he was getting up on the counters. Sherri immediately helped us address the issue of Joey's nipping. She instructed us on what to do and what not to do when he began the biting, and demonstrated with us how we should be working with him. During the week after our first lesson, we could already see a significant difference in Joey's behavior by practicing the suggestions that Sherri had given to us. Joey was very responsive to her techniques which reinforced his positive behaviors. I have participated in obedience classes with my other dog in years past, and I do not feel that the instructor was as effective as Sherri was in teaching me how to teach my dog. Sherri is a great dog trainer and works with Joey wonderfully, but she is also a great people trainer and has really helped us to learn and understand how to effectively train our dog. - Jennifer, Eric, and Joey
We got our first dog, a nine week old shepherd, last March and I don't know how we would have made it through the last year without Sherri and the Tails team! From potty training and puppy behavior to advanced obedience skills, Tails of Success has been an invaluable source of knowledge, support, and love for both our pup and ourselves as new owners. Through the use of positive training, we learned to read our dog's body language and communicate effectively with him to teach him tricks and help redirect his energy and attention so that he is a happy and cherished member of our household. Daycare has also provided a wonderful way for Onyx to practice his socialization skills with other dogs and run off some of his crazy puppy energy. We always appreciate the personal attention, advice, and compassion that Tails provides for us every week. We hope you love it here as much as we do!
- Stephanie, Craig and Onyx
What a fantasic find Tails of Success was for us! We brought our Jersey Mae to Sherri's school at the recommendation of Pitty Love Rescue and couldn't be more happy with the results. So much so, that I have re-enrolled our dog without a break since we started almost a year ago. Sherri and her trainers pay close attention to every dog and their owners, offering specific advice and tailoring the lessons based on individual needs. Every dog is loved and cared for with constant positive feedback. The daycare is exactly that - caring for your dog all day while you are away. An experienced handler will supervise your four-legged pal while it socializes with other dogs, providing them with excercise and interaction skills. You won't be dropping your pet off to be crated all day, which means you will bring home a calmer, well-rounded critter. Sherri and her crew don't just care for your dogs, they love them like their own and are skilled at helping you to be a better parent to your furry friend. I have always felt respected by these folks and am so glad that I found Tails of Success. You will be, too! - Dan and Jersey
We called Tails of Success when the behavior of our older dog and our 1 1/2 year old Jack Russell mix was becoming more than we could handle. I was nervous that we would be scolded for waiting so long to seek out training but Sherri met us right at the level we were at and worked with us from there. We are quickly becoming more confident in our ability to train our dogs under Sherri's guidance. She gives honest and constructive feedback that builds us up and encourages us to stick with it. She treats each dog as an individual, and will try a couple different techniques if necessary to find one that works best for the dog and owner. All of the training methods are positive and do not instill fear in our sometimes timid younger dog, yet are very effective and long lasting. Our dogs have never been happier, and the frustration in our house is quickly diminishing. We would recommend Tails of Success to anyone. - Bailey, Matt, Beans and Turtle
My dogs and I LOVE Tails of Success! Sherri and staff truly care about every dog that walks through their doors. I feel comfortable leaving my dogs in their hands for daycare, and I trust in their training techniques. Sherri and Michelle are my go-to people for advice about dog behavior, training, and even everyday dog-related questions. My dog Nadia knows when we are in the parking lot, and gets very excited. When I pick her up, she is exhausted, and I feel good knowing she had a fun-filled day in a safe environment with knowledgeable staff. - Joanna and Nadia
I wish I could get all my dog friends to go to Tails of Success! With Sherri's guidance in obedience as puppy we have a wonderful dog that fits perfect in our family. Sherri's approach to training is reward based training. Make the dog WANT to do the right thing for the treat and teach them what the right thing is that what you want them to do. Calypso also goes to Tails of Success daycare when we can get her there. She is asleep at the end of the parking lot. Reasonably priced for everything they do. They offer classes for all levels and are always adding new things to try with your dog. My favorite thing about the day care is the floor, not sure what they used, but the dogs have traction when they are playing and do not slide all over and risk injury by sliding on a tile surface. Little dogs have their own play area so my dog will not sit on them. They are also involved in rescue and seem to have a lost soul looking for a home every time I am there. I have owned dogs all my life, met and worked with a number of trainers, some I would recommend, some I would not. I will always and have on multiple times recommend Sherri and her trainers to anyone with out hesitation. If you have a pup, start out on the right foot and call them, if you have a bored dog, call they have lots things to try out, if you have a problem, call her. She has the patience of a saint and will work hard with you to fix the problem. - Jen and Callie
We work exclusively with Tails of Success to train the dogs in our rescue. It's really refreshing to work with them because quite often when we see other rescue dogs in the community, they have a big heavy prong collar on their necks. I have to wonder what trainers are recommending this type of collar and am thrilled that Tails will never make this recommendation. The training techniques at Tails work and our dogs are proof of that. Not one dog is on a prong collar and people love to see our dogs coming. Not only do we find the trainers at Tails of Success extremely patient, and knowledgeable but they are also very savvy concerning dog behavior. Tails is truly a refreshing addition to the training population in Rochester. We would and consistently do recommend them to adopters and people we talk to in and around Rochester.
- Jenn (Pitty Love Rescue)
Working with the staff at Tails of Success has been fantastic both with the dog we adopted and out current foster dog. They have been great at helping to work through some behavior issues we encountered during our fostering experience and continue to be patient as our foster dog continues to learn and trust others. I highly recommend Tails of Success to any one who is in need of any sort of training from basic obidience to trying to solve behavior issues with their pets! - Kristy and Gatsby
We are big fans of Tails of Success. We recently adopted a dog who needed an obedience class to build her confidence and learn basic manners. The Real Life Obedience class is structured so that it's very easy to work at our own pace. In addition, the instructors explain the "why" behind each technique so that you understand the logic. It's very evident that all the trainers enjoy their jobs and are great at what they do. They also switch up each lesson so you and your dog are constantly learning new things or learning how to expand on the skills. - Nancy, Addie and Bisky
We have been bringing our 10 month puppy to Tails of Success since she was only a couple months old. We utilize their daycare as well as do training 2x a week. Beyond being helpful they are also very accomodating to our schedule. We love everyone at Tails of Success, I love how loved my puppy is when she spends her days there. I also love how tired she is when I pick her up! A night with a sleepy puppy is PRICELESS. Lately I have been receiving a lot of compliments on my dogs behavior; how well she plays with other dogs, she comes when called and is simply obedient, even when around other dogs and people. For this I owe my thanks to Tails of Success for training my fiance and I on how to positively reinforce her good behavior. I am a proud momma of a pitty puppy and I have gained much knowledge and confidence with my puppy's training through the commitment and dedication of Tails of Success. I recommend (and have to many) the daycare and training classes to anyone... they have something for everyone! - Melissa
We discovered Tails of Success through a friend's referral shortly after adopting our dog, Bree, last June. We knew we loved this incredibly smart, friendly, active dog, with a personality all her own, but found we weren't quite prepared for her high level of energy. Despite (what seemed to us like) tons of attention and several walks a day, she would have periodic fits of intense anxiety, almost like she had so much energy she didn't know what to do with herself. The trainers at Tails helped us to zero in on the factors contributing to Bree's anxiety attacks. They taught us a number of games and tips to keep her mind busy, but most importantly, they showed us how to truly engage with her, so that our interactions are always positive and fun. Bree rarely, if ever, has an anxiety episode anymore, and I credit the trainers at Tails for enabling us to earn her trust and build a secure relationship with her. I'm sure we couldn't have come so far on our own. Bree absolutely loves coming to Tails. It has become an important part of her life. Sherri, Rich, Cam, and Cassandra are wonderful with her. They truly love the dogs, treating each one as an individual and showering him or her with love and affection. Bree knows exactly where we are going when we make the turn off of Route 104, and she lights up with extra happiness and joy just walking in the door. Since our first visit, we've been consistently enrolled in classes at Tails (both the Real Life Training classes and Beginner Agility) simply because she enjoys them so much, and she also attends day care once or twice a week. We know, without question, that when we drop Bree off for a day of playing with her doggy friends, she will be safe, happy, and mentally stimulated. We've found we can rely on Tails of Success for guidance in every aspect of Bree's care and training, whether behavioral, psychological, or nutritional, and we really appreciate their holistic approach. We are grateful for them every day and can't imagine what we would do without them. - Heather, Steve and Bree
Tails of Success is AMAZING! We had Sherri come to our house for a home visit to work with us when we first fostered/adopted our dog... not for any specific problem but just to help us learn some training techniques and tips as we were new to the Doggie world and wanted to make sure we were starting off our life with our big guy on the right foot. She came out a second time when we hit a minor bump in the road and helped immensely! She was extremely informative, relaxed, friendly and just truly wonderful with Zepplin. She really has a gift for what she does. I have since reccomended several people to Tails and will continue to do so!!! - Chrissy and Zepplin
Our experience at Tails has been great! When we adopted Axl in the fall of 2012, we already knew he was a well-mannered young boy but we wanted to continue his training and learn ourselves. We went from an un-focused and playful puppy while in class, to a determined learner THEN playful pup. We completed a 3 month program and were very happy with the results. Their methods are easily transferred for extra practice at home. Axl also participates in Saturday play groups and doggy daycare. The staff at Tails makes us feel comfortable that he is safe and taken care of while he is visiting. We also love seeing pictures of him playing with his friends once in a while! - Matt and Axl
We love the work that Tails has been doing with our dog. We have done group lessons, private lessons, and home visits. We have seen a marked improvement in our dogs behavior and responsiveness to us. I would highly recommend Tails to anyone who is looking for dog training. We are looking forward to trying out some of their additional classes to keep our dog healthy and active. - Rick
Tails of Success has been the only place where I can take my reactive dog. The atmosphere is always so positive. The staff is always willing to help with whatever issue you may be having with your dog, whether it's training, diet, communication, anything! We absolutely love going there, and it's worth it just to see my dog light up when we pull into the parking lot. The rewards based training really keeps my dog motivated, and we always have so much fun. - Myranda and Sophie
I heard about Tails of Success from a neighbor that brought their dog in for training. They raved about the trainers. They were 100% right. I have been bringing my dog Gigi there for 7-8 months and the trainers are wonderful! Gigi is just a year old and very excited all the time. Trainers Rich, Cam and Cassandra have been fantastic!!! They are all very knowledgeable about dog behavior and training. I even carry their business cards with me to give to people because Gigi and I have always had a great experience and I would highly recommend Tails of Success to anybody looking for a great dog training / day care for dogs!!! - Jill and Gigi
Trainers and staff are amazing! They love dogs, and truly want what is best for them. A friend recommended I see Sherri. I enrolled my dog in a Fearful Fido Class. Wow! I didn't realize how much stress my dog was going through each day. With great tips I was able to understand what my dog was telling me and how to help him. We are now taking a Fun Agility Class. I have to admit that I wasn't sure Rookie would be able to do some of the tasks. Rich and Cam showed me that if I let Rookie explore on his own, he would succeed. I still can't believe my little fearful guy climbs up the trainer and goes through a tunnel. So proud of him, and so grateful to the excellent trainers at Tails. I will continue to suggest them to everyone who has a dog.
- Maureen and Rookie
These are amazing people who love your dog almost as much as you do! Always kind and helpful! Even in an emergency melt down when you feel like you've failed your dog when your puppy is going through their "terrible twos"! I am so thankful that they love our Maggie like we do and put up with us because they do! So grateful! - Mary and Maggie
The amazing trainers at Tails of Success have helped me transform my dog from a highly fearful dog with both people and other dogs into one that is still somewhat uncomfortable but is learning how to deal with that! Learning what's actually going on in his head has helped so much! - Ben and Jet
I had an issue with my dog barking at my grooming shop. I was at my wits end. Sherri came in and within 10 minutes our problem was solved. No harsh collars, no yelling or "alpha" dominance. It was so simple. Everyday I am grateful for the tools she's given me to be a good dog owner and the knowledge she's taught me to pass along to my clients. What she has given me can never be repaid. She is constantly educating herself and is truly dedicated to helping owners and dogs using positive reinforcement and praise. I look forward to a life long relationship with "Miss Sherri" and her staff.
- Terri and Maya
Ludo just finished 2 months of dog obedience training at Tails of Success and myself and the amazing trainers there have seen a major improvement in Ludos behavior. Signed him up for another 2 months. Pretty soon he will be a show dog lol. I highly recommend anyone with dog no matter the age to take some classes. Affordable and fun! - Jessica and Ludo
This is as capable and intuitive a dog training course I've ever seen. Not the usual sit, stand, heel, don't bite the postman sort of stuff, but way more comprehensive. Five stars! - Rich and Nala
Love this facility and everyone who works there. They have a very solid understanding of behavior and use a humane, progressive approach to facilitate learning. I particularly love agility. My Tuck has become so much more confident, and it's wonderful to see such a transformation occur from having fun. I'm so grateful to have kind and knowledgeable trainers with a focus on behavior in the area that I feel so comfortable with.
I have been through many classes at Tails of Success as a student and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the company and their methods of training. I brought one of our extremely fearful dogs through the Fearful Fido class. It was one of the most valuable experiences I have ever had with one of my dogs. It helped me learn appropriate ways to relate to the emotions my dog was feeling and how to help change those emotions so that they were not controlling him. At the start of the class, volunteers who helped these dogs had to stand a few feet away from my dog to avoid him acting out. By the last class he was actually approaching and touching strangers. I have since moved out of Rochester and am desperately searching for a training facility to continue working with. The staff at Tails have very specific ways of working with and relating to dogs. They are one of the few training facilities in Rochester that I would ever recommend to anyone. Not only do they know what they are doing, but they do it in a peaceful and positive manner. They are also involved with helping local rescue dogs, offering free services to help these dogs get adopted. If you are looking for a trainer, I would encourage you to go to one of their classes (sans your dog) and just observe. If you see happy people AND happy dogs, you know that the trainers are doing their jobs correctly. And that is exactly what you will see! - Amanda, Chris, Colt, Phoenix, Solo and Indy
Having gone to one local boarder and trainer where I walked away with very mixed feelings about their approach and care, I was extremely relieved to find Tails of Success. The approach to handling the dogs is more 'evolved' than traditional practices, there is kindness and care and naturally, the dogs respond well, become calm and understand what they are being taught. I have also learned from Tails of Success about a quality, raw and natural diet for my two Shih Tzus which I inherently feel will extended their life and their health! I was loaded with misconceptions until I attended Sherri's seminars! Also, if you want to go on vacation worry free, board your pups with Tails of Success - thay are absolutely trained and equipped to handle any situation, the dogs are always receiving personal attention and I can tell they have a blast :) - Shauntelle
Tails of Success is one of very few places in the Rochester area where the trainers will look at the whole picture - the whole dog, the whole human/s, the whole relationship - and help find the best solution for all parties. The methods used are gentle, effective and FUN (isn't that how training should be?!). It's obvious how much the dogs love going to classes at Tails, they usually can't wait to get in the door! The trainers at Tails are easy to talk to and will gladly do everything they can to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend checking out Tails of Success if you're looking into training with your dog!
Sherri is a very patient trainer who takes her time to think about positive alternatives and solutions to your dogs "problems" and it is great to have that in our area...its been a LONG TIME COMING and we are THRILLED as a rescue to work with Sherri whenever we can! GTTD can stand behind this trainer! - Melissa at Going to the Dogs Rescue
